Lore: Shmim ExpenseRPG System Reference Document
Concept: Shmim is the divine plane of existence from which all Celestials in the Material Plane originate. It is a realm shielded from chaos, where Mel, the ineffable super mind, manifests his grand plan for humanity.
Shmim Descriptions:
Nature: A realm of perfect order, shielded from the chaos of the Material Plane. It is the source of Mel’s divine will and the blueprint for the re-creation of Shmim on the Material Plane. Access: Shmim is accessed from the Material Plane through the use of Custodian Tegic. The term "Shmim" comes to us from ancient Semetic texts, and despite constant corrections from visitors from the realm, it seems that humans can never actually pronounce it correctly. Game Integration:
Character Attributes: Celestials in the Material Plane are manifestations of Mel, and their presence is influenced by the Guna (Sattva, Rajas, Tamas) that shape existence. Worldbuilding: Environmental hazards or factions may embody dominant Guna (e.g., a Tamas-influenced wasteland or a Rajas-driven empire). Conflict Mechanics: Imbalances between Guna can drive plot events (e.g., a Sattva-aligned hero confronting a Rajas-corrupted antagonist). Faction Interactions:
Krasnovians: Seek to harness Rajas for expansion, while condemning Tamas as a threat to order. Circle Trigonists: Explore Sattva as a path to enlightenment, though its purity is seen as impractical. OPFOR: Research Guna as a framework for understanding reality’s structure. Notes:
Shmim is not inherently good or evil but reflects dynamic forces shaping existence. Characters may shift Guna over time, reflecting growth, trauma, or external influences. Celestials in the wild are generally engaged in an ineffable mission from Mel. Shemyaza are created when a Celestial is cut off from Shmim, or when a high-level Custodian mage takes on unnatural life. Compact, machine-readable entry for integration into ExpenseRPG’s System Reference Document.
